The Maple Grove Storm Fastpitch teams are going to Nationals! This week several of the Maple Grove teams will be competing in Buffalo and Oakdale, Minnesota. "At times, it's nice to host the festivities rather than traveling to other parts of the country" said some of the parents. The 10U Crimson team will compete in Buffalo and the 14U Storm Black team will be competing in Oakdale. The festivities start on 7-23-08 in Oakdale and 7-24-08 in Buffalo.

Maple Grove Minnesota History
Prior to 1851 the only inhabitants of Maple Grove were the Winnebago Indians. Louis Gervais arrived shortly after this date and settled in Maple Grove, Minnesota. By 1855 the City began to grow with churches, homes, and the first Maple Grove town hall. It wasn't until 1860 that the first school house was built in Maple Grove. Prior to 1915 some of the early businesses included potato growing, creameries and saw mills. After 1915 a town center was established and this area included general stores, a train depot and cheese factory. The first town hall for Maple Grove was built in 1877 this town hall served the people of Maple Grove until a tornado destroyed the town hall in 1939. The latest Maple Grove government facility was built in 2000 and should be around for some time. Most of Maple Grove's growth has occurred since the second world war. In 1880 the population was 1,155 and in 1950 the population increased to 1,778. In 1990 the population was 38,756. After 2005 the population was over 55,000. Maple Grove continues to be one of the fastest growing Cities in the Twin Cities.
